Resources for the Blind

This page contains a list of web sites and links for resources that we have found are quite valuable to the blind.

American Foundation for the Blind  -   The American Foundation for the Blind removes barriers, creates solutions, and expands possibilities so people with vision loss can achieve their full potential.

California School for the Blind   -  The California School for the Blind provides intensive, disability-specific educational services to students who have primary learning needs related to their visual impairment. The school serves as a statewide resource to provide expertise to Local Educational Agencies (LEAs) and families in evidenced-based assessment, specialized curriculum,  cutting-edge research and technology, and innovative models of instruction that prepare students for adult life.

Council of Schools for the Blind   -  The Council of Schools for the Blind (COSB) is a consortium of specialized schools in Canada and the United States whose major goal is improving the quality of services to children who are blind and visually impaired.

Guide Dogs for the Blind
  -  Guide Dogs for the Blind creates exceptional partnerships between highly trained guide dogs and people who are blind or visually impaired. We offer a lifetime of support and all of our services are provided free of charge. 

Hadley School for the Blind   -  The mission of the Hadley School for the Blind is to promote independent living through lifelong, distance education programs for people who are blind or visually impaired, their families and blindness service providers.

Illinois School for the Visually Impaired   -  The vision of the Illinois School for the Visually Impaired is to provide a quality comprehensive education and serve as a statewide resource to students in Illinois with visual impairments assisting them in becoming personally productive and self-sufficient citizens.

Indiana School for th Blind and Visually Impaired  -   The Indiana School for the Blind and Visually Impaired educates and invests in many children that, due to blindness/low vision or blindness/low vision and additional handicapping conditions, other schools cannot or have difficulty serving. Through its outreach initiatives, ISBVI provides services to children and young adults throughout the state who are blind or have low vision who are not enrolled at the School.

Lions Club International   -   Where there's a need, there's a Lion. Lions Clubs International is the largest service club organization in the world. Our 1.4 million members perform valuable service in 210 countries and geographic areas around the globe. Lions are friends, family and neighbors who share a core belief: community is what we make it.

Louisiana Center for the Blind   -   Today, as never before, blind people are leading normal productive lives. There are many reasons... but one of the most important is the role that blind people are now playing in changing their own destiny. Through self-organization in the National Federation of the Blind, the blind are changing the course of services and programs for blind persons from traditional custodial approaches to innovative and exciting ones which stress self-sufficiency and independence. The Louisiana Center for the Blind  is one of the leaders in a handful of these new programs.

Matilda Ziegler Magazine for the Blind  -   This magazine has been a source for blindness new and information since 1907.It provides a well-rounded blend of general interest news and blindness-related information specifically made for the blind and visually impaired.

National Federation of the Blind >  -  The National Federation of the Blind knows that blindness is not the characteristic that defines you or your future. Every day we raise the expectations of blind people, because low expectations create obstacles between blind people and our dreams. New Mexico School for the Blind and Visually Impaired   -   The New Mexico School for the Blind and Visually impaired is an innovative leader and unifying entity in the field of educating students birth-high school who are blind or visually impaired, will identify and ensure quality education through collaborative relationships with students, families, and local/ state/national partners to provide outstanding advocacy, training, resources, and support services, thus ensuring that all students who are blind or visually impaired will become independent, productive members of their communities.

Overbrook School for the Blind   -   The mission of Overbrook School for the Blind is to develop and deliver education that enhances the options available for persons with visual impairment and other challenges so that they have the greatest opportunity to experience active and fulfilling lives.

Perkins School for the Blind   -   The Perkins mission is to prepare children and young adults who are blind with the education, confidence and skills they need to realize their potential.

Texas School for the Blind and Visually Impaired   -   Texas School for the Blind and Visually Impaired (TSBVI) is a center for educational services for all blind and visually impaired  students in Texas. We provide opportunities for children and youth with visual impairments to develop  the skills necessary to lead personally, socially, and vocationally  satisfying and productive lives.

Utah Schools for the Deaf and Blind   -   The long-term goal of all USB programs is for students to have a quality educational experience that will prepare them for a rich and fulfilling adult life.

Wisconsin Center for the Blind and Visually Impaired   -   The Center's goal is to provide education services to blind and visually impaired children throughout Wisconsin. By working with the local school districts to offer technical assistance, staff development, and Braille and large print materials production, WCBVI serves as a clearing house and resource for visually impaired children, their families, and their schools throughout Wisconsin. 

World Services for the Blind   -   The mission of World Services for the Blind is to empower adults who are blind or visually impaired in the United States and around the world to achieve sustainable independence. Since its inception in 1947, World Services for the Blind has become the most comprehensive rehabilitation and training center for blind or visually impaired adults in the world. Approximately 13,000 clients from all 50 states and 58 countries have come to Little Rock to receive life skills and career training that allows them to live full, independent and productive lives.
